‘The Downward Spiral’ by Nine Inch Nails: it was not (only) the industrial music revolution.

Among the albums that we always remember with great affection because it contributed significantly to the musical formation of Codice EGO is also this, the third album by Trent Reznor’s band, released in 1994. It was hailed by the press as the ‘new big thing’ of industrial but, in time, it became more simply one of the landmarks of 1990s rock.

Influenced in no small part by listening to Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ and David Bowie’s ‘Low’, Reznor made a wonderful album, as violent as existence, full of pain and hope. Like the cover, taken from Russell Mills’ painting entitled ‘Wound’. The past, that returns, like an endless spiral. Among the pearls of ‘The Downward Spiral,’ there is also that song, ‘Hurt’, which became a legend with Johnny Cash and which we reprised in a cover tribute that we plan to repropose here sooner or later. Codice EGO also passes through here.
